Mathieu began taking piano lessons at a very young age and took part in many music competitions growing up, including the American Guild of Music Great Lakes Regional Contest and the Kiwanis Music Festival. He graduated from McMaster University with a B.A Honours Music degree in 2013, and obtained his bachelor’s degree in education from Brock University in 2017.
Although continually trying to better himself as a pianist is at the heart of his ambitions, Mathieu is self-taught on the guitar, bass guitar and drums, and has worked as a freelance recording engineer for local artists. Being a fan of many musical genres, he has played in numerous bands over the years, assuming the roles of keyboardist, bassist, singer, guitarist and drummer. To this day, he still enjoys performing his original compositions at various local venues.
As a music teacher, Mathieu aims to bring out the inner musician found in everyone by making the learning experience fun and positive. No matter the instrument or age group, Mathieu understands the importance of continuous practice, hard work and perseverance as core values which work hand in hand with a teacher’s ability to motivate and inspire students to want to reach their goals.
