Sophia Stoney
Sophia Stoney holds a Bachelor’s degree in piano performance from the University of Victoria, where she studied with Eva Solar-Kinderman and Michelle Mares, and a Master’s in piano performance at the University of Ottawa, studying with Andrew Tunis and Dr. Leopoldo Erice. She has studied collaborative piano with the Lafayette String Quartet and, during the Quartetfest summer festival, with the Penderecki String Quartet and the AYR Trio. Sophia has performed in masterclasses for artists such as world renowned harpsichordist Colin Tilney, Jerome Lowenthal of the Julliard School, and David Lutz of the University of Music in Vienna, and has enjoyed playing recitals in Ottawa, Montréal and British Columbia. In addition to performing, Sophia is an experienced teacher, with a teaching method that adapts to student’s individual needs, from the very young to the adult beginner. Her special interest is in helping pianists who have experienced injury or tension in their playing, and she seeks to develop a strong foundation through creative methods of teaching that suite each student’s unique learning style.
